Entrepreneur Louis Barnett is no ordinary 19 year old. He set up his company, Chokolit, at the age of 12, and became the youngest ever supplier to Waitrose at 13, Sainsbury?s at 14 and Selfridges at 15.

The company?s own PR led to several leads with overseas customers, and in 2007 Louis approached UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) for help in expanding his export business. He soon joined Passport to Export, the UKTI programme that gives exporting companies the tools they need to grow their business internationally.

In February 2011, Chokolit appointed a Mexican distributor, who has since introduced the company?s products into Mexico?s biggest department store, Liverpool. The UKTI team in Guadalajara helped to complete the necessary paperwork and obtain the certificates required to get the chocolate through customs.

?UKTI was instrumental in putting the deal together,? says Louis. ?They advised and helped us with back-end details and regulatory matters. We have worked with UKTI to get our products sold in Spain, Hungary, and 12 states in the US. We are also currently in discussions with China.?
