Company Formation in Qatar

Qatari Law dictates a total local ownership of not less than 51% in any company set up in Qatar.

It defines 7 types of company structure, and details the company structure in terms of Directors, shareholders, and minimum levels of capital.

Briefly, these 7 types of company in Qatar are:

1. The Simple Partnership Company.

This is the simplest company structure in Qatar, is comprised of two or more Partners who have unlimited liability. The name of the company should reflect the names of the partners.

2. The Joint Partnership Company

The is similar to the simple partnership, but differs in that it has two levels of Partner, the Joint Partners and the Trustee Partners.

3. The Joint Venture Company.

In this instance, two or more individuals associate to undertake a business project.

4. The Public Shareholding Company. ( also known as a Joint stock company or Qatari shareholding company)

According to Qatari law, this type of company can be an open Public shareholding company, or a closed Public shareholding company.

5. The Limited Share Partnership Company.

With a minimum share capital of 1,000,000 QR, this type of Qatari company has at least one Joint Partner and at least 4 trustee shareholding partners. The is the most common structure used by international companies doing business in Qatar.

6. The Limited Liability Company.

Broadly similar to the Limited company in the UK.

7. The Holding Company

With a minimum capital of 10,000,000 QR, this is the Qatari holding company that owns the 51% mentioned above.
